I came here to visit from the Russian Federation. I understand that this is still another country and it has its own rules, but I was very puzzled by the fact that only people with local mobile operators can use free Wi-Fi. It's terribly inconvenient. Due to the lack of Internet, I could not simply connect the roaming tariff through the operator's application. The woman at the information desk rudely told me this information. In general, be prepared for such difficulties if you do not have a Kazakh sim card. Otherwise, the airport is quite an ordinary place, neat and without any problems or inconveniences.

The airport is a bit cramped for Almaty, especially when Almaty has become a hub in many directions.
There are not enough cafes/restaurants
And the biggest disadvantage in my opinion is that they are not allowed into the business hall without some kind of permanent flyer status.

Good, but there are few places for those waiting. The halls are good, there is a place to eat and buy souvenirs. On the ground floor there is a budget delicious dining room. The second one has delicious coffee. Clear. There is a mother and child playroom in the international department. Parking is large, but there are not enough places. Sometimes you have to drive a few laps by car until you find a parking space. And in the evening, suspicious people walk around and look into cars.

There aren't enough seats inside, the waiting room is terrible, and if the flight is delayed, you get tired of standing. The port's toilets are terrible, there are no paper towels or hand dryers. In general, it is time to modernize the airport long ago, to increase and hire staff, especially those normal, non-ordinary staff. After all, the airport is the business card of the city.

We waited a very long time for a new terminal, but it turned out to be not very large and there were only 4 baggage belts for arrival.
The airport is not suitable for passengers and tourists without a car. There is no sidewalk for pedestrians. And those who are on a car, there is no Parking, and if by taxi, then there is a long traffic jam at the entrance to the airport. The stop for public transport is very far away. The view of the airport, especially at the old terminal, is depressing - some kind of overlap, exits from the chipboard.

I would like to inform you about my 15 years of experience using this airport, hospitably named "euezhai":
In the arrival area of international flights, the queues for passport control are the same as everywhere else, there were a couple of times either the shift was not complete, or it was lazy - not all cabins worked, it stood for a long time. The toilet in the arrival area is clearly lacking in the hands of good plumbers. It's strange, they are in Alma-Ata, I can give you a phone number. After entering the lobby, there is an invariable swarm of annoying taxi drivers, who, in a clear eye, want to entertain the guests of the city in every sense. Next, at the exit of the building, there is a platform finished with good granite and also well-spat on. It can be seen that a fairly large percentage of people who defiantly keep their inner world clean.
Departure area: it's a little cramped in front of the narrow entrance to the check-in area, there was a crowd at the time of departure of several flights, we had to make our way, but it was only a couple of times.
The check-in area is spacious, queues are like everywhere else. Always the efficient work of the staff at check-in.
Passport control: this is the main ambush. God forbid that you lose your migration card or fail to register on time or overstay your stay. There is a lightning reaction to these events, I do not advise you to hope that it will pass. It will not pass - the fact(t)! One thing saves - the east... It's a delicate matter... but that's if you're lucky and you don't get into the bottle.
Everything is normal in the departure waiting area, except for toilets and ventilation. There's smog in the evenings, you know. There are either no filters in the supply installations, or they have been running out for a long time, so it is difficult to breathe especially in winter, even for a healthy person. The smell of superheated soot dust is so-so "smoke of the fatherland". By toilets: there should be more toilets for airport traffic. They also need to be serviced, repaired and all that. And then, by God, the village.

Of the disadvantages, the lounge area does not meet expectations, the menu is a minimal set of products that are not the freshest. There are places to sleep, but there are only 4 of them for the entire hall, although the hall is quite spacious. If they increase the service, add more places to relax, and improve the menu, then the room will be very comfortable.

The first time I was at Almaty airport, I had to fly with a transfer. I expected the best. There is no break room, I had to wait 10 hours between flights. There is nowhere to relax, the seats are uncomfortable, especially in the local terminal. In the international hall, of course, it's new and big. But there were practically no places, there were a lot of people, I barely found a place to sit down. All kinds of rabble are walking around . Some drunk got to the bottom of it, running back and forth. He harassed everyone . As a result, he sat on the escalator railing and fell down from the second floor. It took 20-30 minutes before security or the police arrived. After registration, the waiting was on the ground floor, it was terribly cold there, as the doors were opened endlessly. In short, these hours of waiting were torture . If I'd known the city, maybe I'd have found a hotel, but I wouldn't have risked it. Someone else compares Almaty airport with Istanbul airport. We found something to compare .

Well, at least they laid a rug, and did not make the rug deteriorate, that is, they do not care about my health.
Why does it cost 3500 tenge to wrap luggage, and 3000 tenge in Astana. We have to be better, it has to be cheaper, or people have mastered the money for construction and are now looking for where to get it from.

The international departure hall is small. Of the cafes, only a coffee shop, duty free is also small, alcohol and perfumes are from the assortment. The border guards work very quickly, the queue does not accumulate. It is better not to contact local taxi drivers, the Yandex Taxi application was working for me (18.04-23.04.2024) money was debited from the savings bank card, Russian. If you do not write off, you can choose to pay in cash. There is an exchanger at the airport or a few hundred meters from the arrival terminal, you can ask the driver to stop and exchange money at a more favorable rate.

There are no conditions for accepting a gift to travelers. Having to use a shared toilet is not very convenient.
