We flew in February 2020 from St. Petersburg to Rome via Lufthansa with a transfer in Frankfurt am Main. Transfer there is 4 hours, return 1 hour and 30 minutes. I read the reviews before the trip and realized that 4 hours is not so much. I was pleased with the fact that the ticket was purchased from the same airline, and in case of delay for the connecting flight (return flight), ak will take us to St. Petersburg on the next flight. On the way to Rome, we arrived in Frankfurt am Main on time, but we sat on the plane for 30 minutes, there were problems with the ladder. One passenger was very worried that she would miss her flight with another airline. She only had an hour for a transfer, which is very short. Moreover, upon arrival it is necessary to go through customs and passport control to enter the Schengen area. We walked about 4 km through the airport to our gate (I noticed it in the pedometer). The queue for control is huge, a pandemic was beginning, and measures were strengthened. Many with hand luggage, almost all were forced to open it. We stood for more than an hour. All together it took about 2 hours. We missed it in 50 minutes on the way back. The control was close, checked quickly. Hand luggage was not weighed and dimensions were not checked (neither in Rome nor in Frankfurt). The most interesting thing is that passengers with children were allowed to board before business class, we were surprised that we were also invited with an 11-year-old child.

I flew in transit several times from the Schengen area and all the time it seemed that these were different airports) If I'm not mistaken, this port is definitely one of the 10 largest airports in the world. Cleanliness is observed everywhere, you can charge your phone and even found free coffee! Frankfurt Airport is really huge: you go, you go, then you go again, but there is no end. Travelators help, and here they are quite long, especially at transplants. There are many cafes and restaurants with different types of cuisines. And of course the sausages with German beer are just excellent) Once I flew here from Paris and it seemed that Duty Free is cheaper here. Well, maybe I didn't remember all the prices, but still...I bought something. And by the way, Lufthansa has a "native home" here. And it's noticeable.

Terrible airport! very long service and long queues. queues, both for receiving tickets and baggage drop-off, and for baggage inspection. I advise you to arrive in advance. in many places, only cards are accepted for payment, no cash. The cafes themselves are always crowded and there are never clean tables. the airport is worse than Zhukovsky!!

It's an interesting airport, but I was in it only during the time of the crown, so I can't give much information (a lot of things were redone because of the virus, Carl). Convenient, if you don't know the language, you won't get lost. Either you will go as you will be guided (Or follow the arrows, there is a translation into English)(After landing), or you can ask for help. Most likely, there will be Russian people for you. It's very cool.

When I chose it for a transfer, I thought there would be a Volksgemeinschaft and a Flight of Valkyries, but only 1 of the 15 lines worked there. The guard photographed documents on a slowed-down smartphone. I barely made it on the flight in the end.
