Several buildings of the Hotel are located along the ocean, under the greenery of tropical palms and plants, there is a lot of shade. We had a room on the ground floor with a terrace and sun beds in front of the room. The ocean is noisy after 100 meters, which of course is both pleasing and frightening at the same time. The view from the windows erases all the shortcomings of the room, namely, its shabbiness and the distant past of all the furniture, cobwebs on the ceiling, and so on. There was always hot water, drinking water was supplied every day, the air conditioner worked perfectly, and a set of coffee and tea was provided every day. They cleaned well, the towels were soft and snow-white, unlike the bed linen. The food at the hotel is varied, the dinner was especially pleasing, there were new dishes every day, grilled fish every day, the cuisine is adapted for Europeans, there are also spicy dishes with curry, which burns the mucous membrane of the mouth. Fruits are cut right in front of you and put in a plate. There is enough baking and the pastry is delicious! Few hotels have ever admired the tastes of absolutely all food (except spicy). Many thanks to the hotel staff, they try to keep us tourists clean, tasty, and beautiful) the smiles on the guys' faces, as if they were waiting for you))). The hotel's pool is not large, but there was plenty of room for everyone, and it was especially pleasant to watch the stunning colors in the sky in the evening after sunset while sitting in the pool. The rest was a success!!!
A terrible hotel with indifferent staff
I'll leave a review here about the Koggala beach hotel, which may be useful for those who are just planning to come here. We had a choice, but we didn't know the place, it was our first time, and so we fell for it....... On the first coastline, the view from the room to the ocean. Finally:
The rooms are very very shabby, but there is a good air conditioner, refrigerator, TV (which was not shown). There is no light in the shower, there is no light bulb at all (well done, so that the dirt is not visible), the toilet is leaking, the water is hot intermittently. We arrived at 10 p.m., the lights were already off everywhere, and we were escorted with a flashlight. The bed is terribly old and creaks, and the child's bed was broken. Honestly, I almost cried when we were checked in, because the 4* hotel is listed on the tour.
In the morning, I already started setting myself up for a wonderful vacation time, the sound of the ocean, squirrels, crows cawing (this is not a place where Mayflies sing in the morning)
There is only one restaurant in the area, but the dishes are very tasty and beautifully served. Shops are only on tuk-tuk, and these are additional expenses, all the time. Again, we didn't know the prices, and on the very first day we were bribed for almost 10 thousand rupees. It is impossible to swim near the hotel, there are big waves. We went to the reef to the Fortress Hotel several times, but it took about 15 minutes in the heat. We went to other beaches, but the format of the holiday was the beach sea is not about this hotel. It's still better to stay in Unawatuna with children.
Several times the breakfast was not a buffet, but they brought us a plate with an omelet and a tomato and that was it. Explaining that there are no people, the kitchen does not work. Nah, well, I kind of understand everything, we honestly didn't eat all their brews, but this is the first time I've encountered this, that we (maybe 15 people) are not people. And the most disappointing thing was at the end, how they all don't care about us, as long as we pay them the money, they don't even know about the service and probably haven't even studied anywhere. Check-out from the hotel at 3 p.m., the room needs to be checked in before 12 p.m., I asked the day before to extend it to 14 p.m. so that I wouldn't have to hang out in the heat for 5 years, especially since it was going to be a difficult flight. To which I was offered to pay for 2 hours for 40$😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨, I opened the booking to them and showed them that a day with breakfast costs $68, to which they nodded and smiled and eventually came to evict us at 12. The child and I went down to the reception with our suitcases, they were waiting there, the child was running, jumping, then we went to eat, returned, another hour passed and at 3 p.m. they asked me "will you rent the room?", I was taken aback, I said, why did I vacate the room at 12 and 3 I've been sitting here for an hour. They gathered a bunch of people, let's ask them for the key that was left in the room. The noise is uproar, they don't understand me, the whole delegation went to the room, opened it with spare keys, and there were workers lying under the conder😂😂😂😂😂👍👍👍👍, They're watching TV. Nooo, it's okay, they kicked me and my child out in the heat, there are a lot of rooms available, they themselves don't know what their employees are doing. They didn't even apologize, they didn't offer water, and when we left for the bus, we didn't say goodbye, honestly, this was the first time I encountered such an attitude. We have been to many places in Asia and lived in 2* and gestas, always a welcoming attitude. But here, only as a purse, to rob, cheat, rob. The hotel guide didn't even help solve the problems at the hotel, no one cares.
We stayed at this hotel in March 2025. At first, of course, the hotel seems to have "seen the sights," but then you don't notice it. Everything is there - air conditioners, fans in the rooms, coffee, tea, water, kettle. The water was always hot in the shower. The tour was with breakfast, there is fish, meat and everything else for breakfast. You can swim in the pool around the clock. The local animals did not bother, they always put flowers in the room. And the constant noise of the ocean is still remembered!!!
