The sculptural composition "City Scales" is located in the very center, between the Town Hall and the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit. The composition symbolizes an important historical event for Minsk — the acquisition of Magdeburg rights in 1499. Magdeburg law granted the city special privileges and obligations, including the standardization of weights and measures. The arrangement of the composition is not accidental. In this place, in the Middle Ages, there were shopping malls where scales were used. It was decided to perpetuate the subject, thanks to which the city developed.
