It's a very atmospheric train station, unfortunately, as in the good old days, you can walk safely without any inspections. Unfortunately, I wasn't inside.
As throughout Abkhazia, there is devastation:(((. The fourth decade has gone, and the cart is still there. The building is very beautiful, they said they had started restoration, but I did not notice. The asphalt on the platform and around the station is broken, take care of the wheels of the suitcases.
The Sukhumi railway Station building was built in 1951 and at that time belonged to the category of large railway stations, because it could accommodate more than 500 people at a time.
When designing the station, an innovative solution was applied - the waiting room for suburban passengers was isolated from long-distance passengers and had separate ticket offices, in addition, the station had several exits to the platform.
With the beginning of the Georgian aggression in 1992, traffic at Sukhum station was completely stopped. The railway station was partially destroyed during the war, and the building was used as an ammunition depot.
Since 2004, train traffic at Sukhum station has been resumed.
To date, the management of the Abkhazian railway plans to begin the restoration of the station building.
