For some reason, it is customary to shamefully conceal the fact that Vasya Voronyansky is the direct culprit of the tragedy in Khatyn. After all, it was his actions in 1943 that led to what happened. They ambushed and killed Hans Welke, retreated and hid in the village of Khatyn, where they were later discovered by German search parties. There, firing back, they retreated further into the forest and framed the whole village. The Germans sent punitive detachments there. But from 1941 to 1943, this village in a remote forest was not needed by anyone, and if it were not for this fact, this village would still be standing.
