There are two railway stations in Ferghana, but there have been no trains from either one for a long time. In 1898-99, a dead-end branch line approached the General's City from the northwest, which was being built along with the entire Samarkand-Andijan highway; in 1954, a line ran along the eastern outskirts of Fergana to the industrial cities of Kuvasai and Kyzyl-Kiya (the latter already in Kyrgyzstan) with their mercury mines, and the Ferghana-2 station appeared within the city, which immediately became the main one.
