I visited Shaolin as part of a Grand Tour to China from a Travel Store tour operator. We visited a monastery, pagodas, and watched demonstrations by martial artists. Everything is very impressive, super! I recommend.
It's a very interesting place. Walking along the mountain after climbing the cable car left the best impression. It's just a pity I didn't have enough time to watch the show of the monastery's students.
The legendary place where one of the branches of Chinese kung fu came from. I dreamed of visiting it, and one day it happened.
Modern Shaolin is an active sports base that unites different schools where people from young to old train and study kung fu. Nevertheless, all the cultural heritage of this place has been preserved, here you can see the monks who dedicated their lives to the monastery, and watch a modern acrobatic show from the students, you can also watch the training process live.
It is better to visit Shaolin early in the morning to see everything: there is a forest of pagodas behind the temple, further to the right is the road to Damo cave, about 600 steps, to the left is the ascent to Songshan Mountain, thousands of steps (at some point I got tired of counting). If you are too lazy to go, you can use the funicular. My friends and I chose a difficult path, went through everything with our feet, so we descended from Songshan Mountain at dusk, after such a walk, our legs simply did not feel. There were also problems with calling a taxi in the evening, we were returning to Luoyang, most of the cars had already left, and no one wanted to take them by order. I went before covid, now the transport situation is probably better, but in any case it is worth considering this point.
The impressions of the visit are amazing, the sea of emotions, the endless joy of making a dream come true. Who is thinking - we must go!
It's a beautiful place. The show is also great. We rode the funicular to heights. We reached the blue bridge, Cool! A place for rest and soul / August 2024
The cult monastery is famous from childhood. The dream came true and I visited him. It can be described for a long time, I recommend that you definitely come there. Unique impressions.
The territory is a large park, with a deep history, if you trample your feet to your knees, then this is a great place, the Shaolin performance on liquid two is very ordinary, I have seen much more amazing Shaolin performances in other cities and countries, for this it is definitely not worth going there.
It's a very atmospheric place. A must-visit. To take care of the soul, visit monks, pagoda city, temples. Think about what you live for. Think about the eternal. Hug a loved one. Cry. Wipe away the tears. Feel the power.
Childhood Dream #1
To visit this place.
The dream is fulfilled✅
For connoisseurs of Chinese films about the fight, this is a sacred place! The beauty is extraordinary. Of the minuses - not even the sea, the ocean of Chinese tourists. However, I was there in the midst of the holidays. I'm sure it's not so crowded on normal days.
The monastery itself was not particularly impressed. The famous monk hat show, the modern circus is much more impressive. The pagoda forest is interesting to see. After the monastery, we went up the right cable car and walked along the mountain along the balconies - I really liked this part
I've been to this fabulous place several times. It's just a delight! It is better to plan an excursion for the whole day. And you can stay at a hotel in Denfeng city.
We visited the monastery with an excursion in 2008. Impressive. Be sure to go to the performances of the guys from the sports schools at the monastery. Usually, performances are arranged for groups for a small additional fee.
It's beautiful, but it looks more like a sports camp. The pagoda forest is interesting to see. If you come here, don't be lazy to take the funicular up the mountain - you won't regret it!

This is a very beautiful and iconic place. I definitely recommend you to visit. Everything is very beautiful. There is also a show for visitors. I really liked it. Be sure to take a guide, otherwise you won't know half the story.
Shaolin: Chan Buddhism, 176 permanent monks, a temple and a Forest of pagodas (a cemetery where on the stele of a monk who died in 2006 you can see everything he used during his lifetime, including a car, train and laptop!), a legendary martial arts center, 1000 year old trees with holes from the fingers of practicing monks; a show kung fu for tourists and morning gymnastics for novices (the Chinese, with rare exceptions– do not pronounce the sound "l", so in the version of the local guide in Russian it was about "posrushniki" and "posrantsy")
It's a very interesting place. The legendary monastery is familiar from the films of the 90s.

So-so, I expected more. But probably because not everyone went around and did not climb the mountain.
The show in the hall is also weak, I thought to see a spectacular kung fu sparring, but alas. Although I liked the guy punching the glass with a needle.
historically, the monks were attacked by robbers and the law prohibited the carrying of weapons by the brethren and they created the martial art of defense without weapons and the system of nutrition and exercise brought good health, which contributed to world physical culture and sports
