The Roman Agora is a large square square created by Emperor Augustus for Roman merchants. The shopping center of Athens until the 19th century, there were warehouses and public buildings. The square was surrounded by colonnades and communicated with the ancient Greek Agora by the Gate of Athena Artemis. During the Turkish rule, the Gate became known as the "Bazaar Gate". From the golden age of the classics to the devastating fire of 1884, the Roman Agora retained its purpose.
