Chitwan National Park is Nepal's first national park. It was founded in 1973 as the Royal Chitwan National Park and was granted World Heritage Site status in 1984.[1] It covers an area of 952.63 km2 (367.81 square miles) in the subtropical lowland of the Inner Terai in south-central Nepal in the districts of Nawalpur, Chitwan, Makwanpur and Parsa. The altitude above sea level is about 100 m.
