I saw it and paid my respects. In 1453, after the capture of Constantinople by the Turks, Christian relics were in danger. A Greek named Georgios Kalocheretis saved the relics of St. Spyridon and St. Theodora Augusta by taking them out of the city.
Kalocheretis transported the relics to the island of Corfu, which was then under the rule of Venice. Corfu was a relatively safe place where the relics could be protected from the Ottomans. Here the relics of Saint Spyridon have been preserved to this day. The relics are in the corner in the photo on the right.
An indescribable feeling for a believer . Several times a day, the relics are opened for worship, and you can kiss the slipper on the foot of Spyridon of Trimifunt.
