Another of the oldest Orthodox churches in Old Tbilisi is Mamajvari, also called the Church of the Holy Cross, Jvaris Mama. It is located on 41 Kote Abkhazi Street. You can get in by passing through a small arch with a bell tower. The territory is small, with a palm tree in the middle, it seemed to me not very well maintained, perhaps because of the shade of large trees. It was built at the Tbilisi compound of the Georgian Jerusalem Monastery of the Holy Cross. Until 1921, the church belonged to the Patriarch of Jerusalem. It is believed that the buildings of the complex that we see here today date back to the XVI–XIX centuries. The church was repeatedly destroyed by the Mongols and Persians, but it was rebuilt each time.

The oldest temple on the territory of Tbilisi. Visit the divine service here, immerse your soul in prayer in the Georgian language, and feel the grace of the holy land.

The choir sings very beautifully. The rector of the church, Father Timothy, is very friendly. He discusses confession in detail and slowly, and conducts the service thoughtfully and attentively. Other fathers are also friendly.

On all the walls and ceilings there are beautiful ancient frescoes with various religious subjects, many icons decorated with gold.

Here, this Temple has a very cozy courtyard and a tree (apparently from the Garden of Eden) on which different birds live and chirp in all sorts of ways
