It's a wonderful little town. People are kind and helpful . There are a lot of shops . They are not allowed into the city of Baikonur itself,6 as it is a closed city, but people who have good food and household supplies live nearby.

It's a beautiful place, especially in April, when the tulips are in bloom. I was there when the satellite city was called Leninsk, and the rockets flew away from the first site. I saw the launch from a distance of 200-250 meters. It's an unforgettable feeling, you can't get that from an observation deck for money. In total, I managed to see and launch more than 40 aircraft. There was a time! The photos were in black and white, there were no others then.

From the Gagarin launch, you're just thrilled that our cosmonauts and scientists were there. And when the cargo is launched, the steppe is tearing up from the noise of the engines and you feel not just like a little man - but a micron in all this being.
