Здание построено в 1947 году. Поскольку в строительстве также принимали участие военнопленные, долгое время считалось, что «Родина» была спроектирована немецким архитектором. Эту версию подтверждает и тот факт, что в довоенной Германии, в больших городах, и в самом деле строили похожие здания – этот архитектурный стиль называется «Большим». Дом — точная копия кинотеатра — и сейчас сохранился в пригороде Бремена.
