The island is great, the home reef is 150 meters from the water's edge. There is a lot of greenery, you can say it's a jungle, and the disadvantages of nature are coconuts falling from palm trees) BUT nature is not the merit of the resort)
The resort itself is 3*, not 5*, there are 5* for the same money and closer to Male, but maybe it's worse with the reef, but otherwise it's 2 times better for sure. If snorkeling, diving, then you can go here, taking into account that you are not pretentious in everything else.
The food is meager, the fruits are watermelons and apples, there are oranges and bananas, but once every couple of days. Children can almost always have sausages and pasta or potatoes. But both can be acute)
We waited for the minibar for 3 days, regularly visiting the reception several times a day. The bungalows are tired, and so are the pools.
Restaurants are partially closed, in fact, one is where breakfast, lunch and dinner are all inclusive, and the second is a grill bar, where there is almost always no one, and the grill bar has a large area with a pool and sun beds, some rooms and halls are generally closed. The pool at the grill bar is half full and does not work in fact.
The water is barely flowing. On the day of departure (and the transfer was at 5 a.m.), it turned out that there was no water at all (something was turned off at night, either pumps or heaters), an employee ran from the reception to turn on something) while the pressure rose and the hot water flowed after half an hour, it was already necessary to leave.
The water villas are abandoned, waiting for renovation for 10 years judging by the appearance.
Diving is a big plus, Oleg, an instructor from Belarus. There are no more Russian speakers on the staff.
It feels like the resort is either for sale or captured by raiders) about 15 years ago, as if everything was great, and then something went wrong)
Transfer is a separate problem, maybe not a resort, of course. There are domestic flights to Male from the neighboring island, but the departure is at 7 a.m. local time (Male at 6), the next one is at 14:00 local time. Accordingly, if you have a flight from Male at 14-15 hours, then you will be at Male airport at about 6:30 a.m. and will wait for departure for 7-8 hours. Consider and calculate your strengths and abilities, especially with young children.
We had a rest for 87 days with my wife and grandson from 06.01.2025 to 02.04.2025
Meals included breakfast, lunch and dinner. A bungalow by the water.
The food in the hotel was modest for 5*, but we did not starve. I knew where ~ I was going, I didn't know from the reviews.
Everyone was satisfied with the rest, especially the grandson. I didn't want to leave😀
We have been to the Maldives before, for a total of 112days. Before that, we were in 3* 5* hotels and stayed at the guests house for one month.
My wife and I like Maldives and have something to compare it with, we have been to 42 countries....
The island hotel has an optimal size: not very small and not too big. The hotel is already 25 years old, so the next stage of renovation has begun. In 2024-2025, premium beach villas with a private pool and villas on the water should be completely renovated.
A pretty beautiful home reef with a lot and variety of underwater life.
Every evening, an electric stingray and large reef sharks are fed on the pier, which can be found underwater the next day while snorkeling on the home reef.
In case of bad weather, there is a beautiful designer pool. There is a good fitness club on the island, which is very rare for beach hotels.
But there is one big disappointment - it's nutrition... It's very meager and tasteless. The choice of dishes is catastrophically small. There are no tropical fruits or seafood. There are only apples and pears... Even if you have paid for an all-inclusive meal, you don't have to worry - you definitely won't get fat during your stay at the hotel ...
You can get to the island from Male by seaplane or a regular plane of local airlines to Darawand Island and then 5 minutes by speedboat.
