The temple of Hephaestus stands on the hill of Kolono Agoraios. The gods are the patrons of art and craft. It is built of Pentelian marble. Construction began in 449 BC. There were bronze statues of gods inside. In the Christian era, the temple was turned into a church dedicated to St. George. Here, in 1834, Athens was proclaimed the capital of a new state. It is located in a sacred grove. This Doric temple with exquisite decoration is in the best preservation compared to other monuments of the Agora.
It seems to be the only ancient temple of Athens that has come down to us. In any case, on the Agora (the building opposite was restored in the 50s of the XX century)
