There is a sacred hill in Vrindavan called Govardhan. There are many sacred kunds (small ponds) around the hill. Many followers have been coming here since time immemorial to visit these places and make parikramas (rounds of sacred places) who give countless blessings to all people, regardless of caste or religion. The parikrama around Govardhan Hill is about 21 kilometers and takes 6 hours. Many people circumambulate Govardhan with dandavatami bows, prostrating themselves completely on the ground. And special ascetics do 108 full half-bows, in one place, and so gradually advance, each time to the length of their body. Such a parikrama can take from several months to several years. Sometimes people leave the body (die) during such a parikrama, especially in summer in the heat, at this time the thermometer can rise to plus 50 degrees Celsius, in the shade. Leaving the body during dandavat parikrama on Govardhana is considered a special blessing and grace of God.
One of the shrines of the Vaishnavas, every year many thousands of believers from India and beyond come to walk around the hill (perform parikrama) and worship the heart of the Vaishnavas.
