A city that must be visited! It is impossible to remain indifferent! Hundreds of years ago, people built a city that still impresses with its scale and beauty.
A very beautiful ancient city. The ruins are well preserved. I recommend you to visit. Besides, it's not for nothing that Turkish beer is named after Ephesus)
The Night Museum is a must-see place.I recommend those who visit during the day to visit again at night,it is one of the limited places in Turkey where we can have this experience.
In summer (until November) it is open until 19:30! Not before 17:00
Large territory, beautiful ruins. Not as usual: "there was a palace here, and now there are only stones." We took an audio guide to izi.travel for 279 rubles . You can also download the audio guide by QR code on site, but I do not know if it is free and in which languages it is available.
There is a kiosk with water and drinks in the middle of the route. There is a toilet only towards the end.
It is very hot in summer, I advise you to go in the morning or evening.
There are many interesting objects. The library and the huge amphitheater, which is well preserved, were especially impressed. There are many cats walking around the ruins of Ephesus, as well as throughout Turkey.
At the end of November, the perfect weather to visit this place. It is best to drive here in the morning when there is no scorching sun.
According to the Bible, it was in Ephesus that the largest Christian church was located, where the Apostle Peter, the Apostle Paul and Timothy preached! It was here that Nero's persecution of Christians began.
It was not the most difficult, but an exciting quest: to find among the ruins of ancient Ephesus how to get to the library of Celsius through the Herculean Gate (by making a wish by touching the columns!) past Niki and the ancient public toilet (public latrine). And find out which trail pointed to the brothel, giving the men the "right to the left." And be surprised by the incredible number of cats sitting like sphinxes on the ancient stones of Ephesus. The test has been successfully passed, new impressions, knowledge and pleasure have been received!
Ephesus is an ancient ancient city. The closest resort to it is Kusadasi. Many who want to see Ephesus go on vacation to this region of Turkey.
We took a separate transfer, the cost for half a day is 70 euros, bargain (it cost us 50 euros to check into the house of the Virgin Mary, a minibus for 7 people). It was possible to order an individual Russian-speaking guide (about 30-50 euros), but we did not take it, we just wanted to walk. We paid for the entrance ourselves. The cost is 120 liras per adult. Children under 7 years old are free of charge, older as an adult.
Many people write that Ephesus is located on the coast. That's not so. Once upon a time, 4 thousand years ago, there was a world ocean here and the city was on the shore. Now you will not see the sea in Ephesus. The territory, let's call it a museum, is very large. If you come to Turkey at the height of the hot season, I highly recommend making a trip around this city, at an earlier time when the sun is not yet at its zenith. There is practically no shade here. Very hot. At one point, I thought I would lose consciousness from overheating, given that I was catching any shadow and had a hat on my head.
People still went on excursions and stood and listened to what they were told. Of course, it's cool and interesting to listen to interesting fictional stories, but not under the scorching sun.
The city is very beautiful, there are many antique columns, ancient dilapidated structures and works of architectural art. For a second, you even get the feeling that you have made a leap in time and got into the past.
Most of all, of course, I liked the library of Celsus. Before this museum, I had never seen such a "restored" building from the ancient world. An incredible sight.
If you want to see one of the wonders of the ancient world, the temple of Artemis, or rather the only column that has been preserved, then it is not here and is not part of the museum complex.
There are also 2 amphitheatres on the territory of Ephesus, one small, at first, the second huge, located in the mountain, in the shape of a hemisphere, it can be seen even from the road :) This amphitheater is under restoration, but part of it is open to visitors and inspection.
In general, I liked the museum complex very much.
