It's a nice place to visit, the site is interesting, although the real construction almost is not there anymore.

Gyumri, the Black Fortress, is a place with a history! A circular fortress made of black tuff (50 meters in diameter) towers over the city on a hill. There is now a concert hall with a round stage and VIP balconies inside.
The view of the city from a height is impressive - it takes your breath away! The walls outside are full of historical inscriptions and autographs from different years. You can get there on foot from the center (about 2 km), along the way looking at the Hill of Honor and the Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel.
Admission is free, but you need to pay about 200 Russian rubles to inspect the interior. Built in the 1830s to protect against the Turks, the fortress is now a real open-air museum. The territory is well maintained, near the Russian military base.
One of the disadvantages is that climbing the hill is not easy, and you can only get inside on the ground floor. But the place is definitely worth a visit - the atmosphere of history and military glory is felt in every stone!

The beautiful concert hall and the space itself, only out of season everything will be closed there (including toilets).
You can stop by to see the complex itself and the views. From my experience, 15-30 minutes for this location is quite enough.

The black fortress in Gyumri was built of black tuff for defense under Nicholas I, later it was a prison and warehouse. Now it is a concert venue.

A fairly gentle staircase leads to the fortress. A view of Mother Armenia and the whole of Gyumri.
The building is covered and round, there is a stage in the middle, and arched "windows" on all walls. There are stairs to the second floor, but it is impossible to climb. I expected it to be cool, but no, the heating is excellent and the benches do not help much to relax.
There are no cafes and souvenir shops on the streets, and there are also few people in general.

An interesting place. As well as many places that are riddled with history.
The Russian fortress, founded in the 19th century, is located on a significant elevation. Stairs cannot be avoided, but it must be said, adds a certain charm to this monument of architecture and military architecture. The territory is protected, which has a positive effect on the safety and well-grooming of the adjacent footpaths.
The view from the fortress to the city is stunning. This choice of location immediately becomes clear.
The fortress itself is covered with inscriptions on the outside, like there was a ..., or an indication of the city. And it's upsetting, of course.
There is nothing left of the fortress inside, now there is a concert hall with good acoustics. The stage is round, there are seats around the perimeter, and there are balconies.
I didn't find any performances, but it looks unusual.
There is an observation deck nearby. The photos are cool there.
If you read about the origin of the fortress, and its role, visiting this object will be palpably richer perceived.

Interesting, beautiful view. There's not much to do inside the fortress, you can stand and stare for five minutes, but no more. Someone is allowed down, someone is not, it is unclear, they did not let us in. I think it's better to go here with an excursion.

Why is it 4 ? The repair is not finished.
But in a year it will be the main attraction of Gyumri.
Even now it turns out that some concerts of national music were held there, the acoustics are awesome.
I wish the Armenians a successful completion of the complete reconstruction and opening of the entire museum and cultural complex.
The rating is "4" only for the fact that the reconstruction has not yet been completed.
I hope to attend a concert in a year (by the way, a hall with a thousand seats)👍

You can read about the history of the fortress construction on Wikipedia or other sources without me. Now it is, perhaps, the main attraction of Gyumri. It is located within walking distance (1.5–2 km) from the city center, in good weather I recommend walking the way.
The visit is free of charge. A monument to the Mother of Armenia and a park with a pond are within walking distance.

Everything is neatly repaired, you can sit inside the fortress to feel the whole atmosphere. Words cannot convey what a beautiful view of the city of Gyumri 😍 Mother Armenia stands next to the fortress, a little further away there is a square with a pond where you can walk. It's a pleasure to be there!
