Charyn Canyon is a magnificent natural monument formed from sedimentary rocks.
Our journey was not along the usual tourist route, and it was... incredibly interesting and beautiful!
It's definitely worth coming!
What didn't you like:
When they reached the river, the cars taking tourists refused to take them when paying by transfer, and they had to walk back the same way.
The entrance to the national park is paid, 1,100 tons were given for a man and a car.. there is a parking lot 800 meters from the checkpoint, there is also a cafe with a toilet, everything is in very good condition. There are houses for lovers, you can meet the dawn or spend the sunset. An entertainment in the form of archery. There is an observation deck about 1.5 km away, you can walk, you can rent a bike, there are also golf carts for a fee. Descent into the canyon itself via the stairs to the right of the parking lot. All the beauty opens up when you walk down to the site 2.5 km., Along the way there are benches and gazebos for relaxation. A very beautiful mountain river flows below, there are also gazebos for recreation. You can climb to the top on foot or by UAZ for 500 rubles. The place is great, I recommend you to visit.
It takes five hours to get there from Almaty, but it's worth it! You will have the opportunity to walk along the top of the canyon and go down to walk 2.5 km along its bottom. If your physical condition allows you, use both options. The beauty and grandeur of the rocks, when you see them from below, is simply amazing! You can return by minibus, a converted loaf with an open body, which is also a kind of adventure.
There is a toilet in the canyon area, an opportunity to have a snack, drink coffee, and buy water. You will remember this trip forever!
If you haven't seen the canyons before, then it's definitely worth coming. On weekends, you can take a bus tour (Google it), and on weekdays you can rent a car.
By car — 3 hours each way. The road becomes beautiful at the end. Overall, the road is easy. You can stop for coffee on the way.
The canyon can be viewed from above (4 km round trip) or from below (6 km round trip). It's more interesting from below. The route from below leads to the river and back. You can get back by car for 800 tenge (about 100 rubles). They only accept cash. If you don't like walking, then you can get there by car.
Overall, the canyon is worth seeing.
A natural monument! Beautiful views both from above and from inside the canyon, from where you can see the amazing forms of weathering of sedimentary rocks. You can take a ride in a car for a small fee, but the photos are better if you walk. The most beautiful thing is at the end, where the canyon ends at the Charyn River. The water in it is cool, the current is fast, but you can swim a little.
The canyon is impressive and, as they say, it is only a small part that is open to tourists. Of course, you should not only look from above, but walk along it. Loaves travel along the canyon, which can be driven for 800 tenge in one direction. I advise you to walk through the canyon first to enjoy the views, and then take a taxi back, since the road back is uphill.
This is the second year we have been visiting this place. It is a famous landmark not only in the Almaty region, but also in the whole of Kazakhstan.
It is located 200 km from Almaty.
It is best to find time and see the canyon both from above, there and by walking from below to the Charyn River.
Fascinating views
The canyon is nice and beautiful, the impression of it is fantastic for the first time. But when you come for the 8th time, the impression is weak - everything is familiar and tourists are becoming more and more annoying. Previously, there were fewer of them and there was no "UAZ taxi" - then it was much more Atmospheric and pleasant to be there... And now there is not even a desire to be there, if you are in your car for a vacation, I recommend that you go further, where there is no such flow of people...
Charyn Canyon is one of the most exotic vacation spots the fabulous world of the valley of castles where views of the canyons caves grottos open, a walk will captivate you and leave you wondering
I went to this location today with a guide from Melon travel. I liked everything very much, the views resemble something from the works of American writers Carl May, Jack London. I saw such beauty for the first time. Artyom, the guide, coped with his tasks very professionally, seasoning the trip with different stories and myths, and in general, he is extremely satisfied. I highly recommend it to anyone who has not been there, there are similar locations around the world, but each of them requires and deserves to be studied and visited
There is a visit center where you can take a guide, relax, have a snack in a cafe. There is a toilet, sale of souvenirs. In general, I like this kind of tourism. You can go down the canyon on foot, then go up by car (500 tenge). Along the way, there are garbage cans, benches, drinking fountains do not work. Take water with you. Only 2.5 km away, a surprise will be waiting for you at the bottom in the form of a mountain river with cold and refreshing water, there are gazebos at the base, where you will have to wait in line for an ecotaxy (open UAZ)
I wish I could see the Charyn Canyon in reality, Kazakhstan is a very beautiful country and there is a lot of incredible beauty and uniqueness there.
There is a country to visit on my wish list.
The canyon is beautiful, but the organization wants the best. At the bottom of the canyon by the river, they sell taxi tickets to climb back on the UAZ (for example, if it is difficult for health reasons). But on the day we arrived, one of the three UAZ trucks broke down, respectively, the interval of their running increased. But we learned about this not from the employees (most likely, they did not want to talk so as not to reduce income), but from the people in the queue. It was very unpleasant, because we could have walked up, looked at the view and walked calmly to the observation deck, but in the end we spent two hours downstairs (instead of the promised hour!), having already examined everything there and being nervous, since we were late for the tourist bus. At this hour, we planned to look at the canyon from above, as a result, we glimpsed the beginning of the canyon from above, and the whole impression was spoiled by the way we overreacted that we were stuck at the bottom. There is not much to see below, there is no point in sitting for more than half an hour, unless you want to meditate in front of the boiling water.
In general, before buying a ticket, ask a bunch of people who are queuing for the UAZ when they bought the ticket - you will have to wait about the same amount.
We arrived as a family, took a walk from above, a pleasant guard at the last observation deck offered to take pictures of us, took an excellent photo, had a nice chat with him. The only thing is, we couldn't go down the stairs with the stroller, but we walked around the road and reached the river and back on foot, it's hard to get back, if you go take water with you, the water taps don't work on the way.
A fantastic place! There are a few such canyons on the planet. You definitely need to go if you are in Kazakhstan! A one-day trip, but a lifetime experience!
a beautiful canyon, a variety of colors, a simple route. thanks to the guide Alexey for an interesting informative tour, his professional approach to his work and for showing the most interesting places and impressive views
A very pleasant visit center (clean toilets, cafe, air conditioning). The canyon itself is beautiful! We walked along the trail for advanced tourists ("Witches Gorge"), we really liked it
Of the cons: drinking fountains do not work (none on the territory!), without water in the heat it is very difficult (although they took their own)
On the way up the trail, the rope is broken (for convenience and insurance). It is possible to climb without it, but it is more difficult without children. I ask the park administration to put the route in order
A great place, you definitely need to walk along the bottom of the canyon. Parking, cafe, swing, strong wind from above - everything is there. They conduct organized excursions. It resembles the Grand Canyon, but the scale is much smaller
A picturesque gap in the ground . The impression was spoiled by UAZ trucks that rolled tourists along the bottom of the canyon . It's completely worthless. A column of dust .
It's a beautiful place. We arrived in the evening at 19:00, because at first we got lost and drove through the fields to the opposite side of the canyon. If you want to see grazing camels, horses and donkeys, and the car allows you to walk along a small off-road, you can take a ride, spend about 2 hours of time. Enter canyon parking in the navigator, you will definitely not get lost. Entry is paid. In the evening there were not many people and there was no heat. The pay toilets were closed, and there was one free toilet at the end of the canyon. If you want to go down the canyon, do not miss the stairs, it is located at the beginning of the canyon. Take a bottle of water with you, it will definitely not be superfluous after climbing the stairs. In the evening, the taxi upstairs was no longer working.
It's a great place.
We were in January 2023, during the -20 cold and strong winds. There is much less wind in the canyon itself than in the parking lot. It was very cold anyway.
The castles themselves in the canyon are very beautiful and diverse.
A must for tourists to visit.
Beautiful, powerful, breathtaking! I do not recommend it in the heat: you will get tired very quickly. If you just make stops and sit on benches from time to time. Be sure to reach the river and look at the canyon from above. On the downside: toilets are not working during the pandemic.
Beauty! It's like being in the wild west. There is not enough infrastructure.

It is located on the territory of the national park. Therefore, there will be a cash entry fee.
It's a great place. In summer, the weather is sultry, it will be difficult to pass without 2 liters of water, sun protection (clothes, cream). Geologists will be especially interested.
You can take a local taxi back (at the end of the route) for 500 Tenge per person.
It needs to be seen! It is advisable to stay there overnight. To see a magical sunset and an equally beautiful sunrise. To sit in silence. To contemplate nature. To feel the silence and tranquility of this magical place.
It's a very beautiful place, they don't let you down by car, only on foot. Very hot. There is an Eco Park recreation center downstairs. You can spend the night there 1300 rubles per person. Two bottles of 1000 tenge drinking water. It's a little expensive.
