Cabo de Rama Fort, the largest (180,000 sq.m.) and one of the oldest fortresses in Goa on the cape of the same name with scenic views of the Arabian Sea and mountains.
It was built by the Hindu rulers in the 16th century, but during its dramatic history it passed into different hands – Muslims, Portuguese, British. It got its name after the hero of the ancient Indian epic poem "Ramayana". Important battles in the history of India took place here.
In 1763, the fort was rebuilt by the Portuguese, it had 21 guns, a chapel, military barracks and commandant's quarters. From 1935 to 1955, the fort was used as a prison, then it was abandoned and fell into oblivion.

A few years ago, this place was much more atmospheric. There are a lot of local tourists here now, and no matter what, the locations have become less attractive.
It took 50 minutes to get to the Cabo de Rama Fort in South Goa on March 3, 2023. in a rented car from D.Betalbatima. After reading the reviews about the long walk and the numerous monkeys on the vines, we thoroughly prepared. At 35 degrees. sneakers were shod in the heat, which caused them to suffer afterwards. . It turned out that there was no need to walk there a lot. It's a pity that no monkeys have ever met. And it's good to have drinking water, they took a lot, they were constantly thirsty, and there are no stalls nearby. The fort stands destroyed, it is a red brick fortress connected by wide, not very high cylindrical towers, on which cannons were previously installed. The fortress passed to the Muslims, then to the British, and since 1763 it has been Portuguese. Its area is impressive, But since the fortress is currently in a ruined state, it does not seem to be a very attractive object for tourists, and there is nothing much to see. But the view of the Arabian Sea from a height is magnificent. There is a functioning church on the territory of the fort. There are a lot of vines around.
