We visited it back in 2011... We climbed Liberators Hill for 15-20 minutes along the pedestrian serpentine, but it was worth it! Magnificent view of the evening Plovdiv, young people sitting on the parapets, clean, calm, warm...

It was my mother's dream to see this monument in person. Having been there, I can say frankly that this is a place of power. Monument to the Russian soldier who saved lives. The ideal location for this monument is with a view of the whole city. I also can't help but note how fascinating the view of Plovdiv is.

I was in Plovdiv and saw Alyosha back in July 1987. The majestic monument depicts a Soviet soldier-liberator with a lowered machine gun, who, tired of the war, looks into the distance. There were many flowers at its foot - Bulgaria still remembered the feat of Soviet soldiers who once again returned its statehood. Among the tourists, I noticed a dry old woman; despite the heat, she was dressed in black. Going to the foot of the monument, she put a modest bouquet of four carnations and said: - Well, hello, son!.. Tears welled up in my eyes. It became very quiet. The men took off their hats...

In Plovdiv, a granite monument has been erected on Bunardzhik Hill in memory of the fight against fascism. Its height of the monument is 11.5m, the pedestal is 6 m. Authors: sculptor V.Rodoslavov, architect N.Marangazov. It was installed in 1957. There is a popular name for the monument "Alyosha". It comes from the Bulgarian-written name of his comrade-in-arms "Alosha", (in Bulgarian, by hand, on a pedestal). People keep the memory of those who brought them peace. For many, this monument is a symbol of the struggle against fascism.

Monument to the Russian soldier Alyosha the liberator. It is installed on the top of a hill with a beautiful view of Plovdiv. To climb to the monument, you will have to climb paths and ladders - it is better to do this in comfortable shoes and periodically stop to rest.

"Alyosha" /bolg. "Alyosha"/ - monument to the Soviet Soldier-liberator in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It is an 11.5 meter high iron-concrete sculpture of a Soviet soldier looking to the East. In his hand is a PPSH, the barrel is pointed at the bottom. Sculptors V.Radoslavov, L.Dolchev, T.Bosilkov and A.Kovachev. The opening took place on November 5, 1957. The monument was erected on a 6-meter pedestal lined with syenite and granite. The pedestal is decorated with bas-reliefs:"The Soviet Army is beating the enemy." A staircase of 100 steps leads to "Alyosha", standing in the middle of a large observation deck. The monument itself is visible from anywhere in the city. The initiative to erect the monument arose from the residents of Plovdiv, as they say now, from below," an initiative committee was created and a fundraiser was announced. Therefore, the monument is the property of the Plovdiv City Hall. Alexey Skurlatov, a private of the consolidated company of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, accidentally became the prototype of the monument. In 1944, he restored the telephone connection between Plov and Sofia. In 1966, poet K. Vanshenkin and composer E.Kolmanovsky wrote the song "The song quickly gained popularity, until 1989. It was the official anthem of the city of Plovdiv. Postage stamps, badges and postcards were issued with Alyosha.Alyosha." The Soviet Union was collapsed, and completely different people came to power in Bulgaria, whom the mere mention of Soviet-Bulgarian friendship makes hysterical. Attempts were made to demolish the monument as a "symbol of the Soviet occupation. In 1989, the city community Council made such a decision, but the residents of Plovdiv stood up for Alyosha, signature collections and round-the-clock duty were organized. The monument was defended. In 1993, the mayor of Plovdiv decided to dismantle the monument, but was forced to cancel it due to mass outrage and the threat of a group of local residents to commit an act of public self-immolation. The years go by. There are fewer and fewer defenders of Alyosha, and young people, brought up in the spirit of hatred for everything Soviet and that Russia is to blame for all the troubles of modern Bulgaria, continue to fight against the monument. The Committee for the Dismantling of the monument has been re-established, but already all Bulgarian. Moreover, they want to do this very loudly, by undermining and inviting all the world's leading TV companies and media so that the whole world knows how they are fighting communism. Or maybe they just want to get a box of cookies and a barrel of jam from the main "defender" of democracy and freedom around the world. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to resist these encroachments. The monument "Alyosha" is the property of the Mayor's Office of Plovdiv. There are no graves of soldiers there, so Alyosha does not fall under interstate agreements on the protection of military graves and monuments.
